Description |
Dinner knife with bone handle. Maker's mark on blade reads "NAYLOR&/SANDERSON". |
Provenance |
These items were found in an old box, which had written on the outside: "For WMI - c. 1826 4 forks 4 knives 1 sharpener steel with bone handles (worn off) Property of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Robson Sent to me by Mrs. J. J. Munns 1974 Mary Lou Robson Fleming" A separate sheet of paper, found elsewhere, has a photocopy image of one of the knives and one of the forks, and reads "Knife and Fork originally belonging to Dr. Robert Robson. Only pair of an original set of five still in the position of Mrs. Mary Lou Robson Fleming (8/22/83). Others given to Workingmen's Institute." and "4 sets + knife sharpener to match given to WMI" and "Maker's mark on knife reads "Naylor & Sanderson". Handles made of bone." |
Notes |
Naylor & Sanderson was dissolved in 1821, apparently began operations sometime after 1776. So circa 1821, even though the provenance says circa 1826. |
