Notes |
Robert Henry Fauntleroy purchased a house in New Harmony in 1840. Letter to the editor in Western Atlas, October 1, 1846: "MR. EDITOR:---Your bottle of curious construction, and "Hoosier Apple-Tree," are great Natural curiosities, in their own way; but there is a curiosity, the invention of a young gentleman of New Harmony, which I think rather surpasses the "Mysterious Bottle." It is no less than a Musical Box or instrument, which (though nothing resembling the common musical boxes of the day,) can, by being operated on by a small crank, in the hands of the inventor, be made to accompany the most difficult pieces of music. As yet, the inventor has only used it as an accompaniment, but is sanguine in his expectations of perfecting the instrument in a short time./ED.CLARKE." |
