Provenance |
Card reads: "Arabella/Doll of Anna Maria Soper, the late Mrs Lee Woods who was born in 1844, Died 1926" 10-17-2018 Found a card which has information on both sides; took pictures and added them to this item. Here is what is on the back and on the front. On back: "On May 24, 1889 Arabella was exhibited first at New Harmony, Indiana, at a doll show given by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where she took first prize -- a flower vase. Her second appearance was in the Curio Department at the "Old Edward's Home Coming", Albion, Illinois, August 21, 22, 23, 1907. Eighteen years three months between her first and second appearance." On front: "Howdy! Awful glad to see you! Why, don't you know Arabella? Where have you been the past 60 years? You don't mean to say I look old? Well, "age before beauty." I acknowledge my beauty is almost gone, and as a family relic I have descended. My exact age is not known: but even if I remembered the modesty peculiar to my sex might forbid me disclosing the fact. I am a native of New Orleans, and once had blonde curls and a classic nose, but moths and mice have done their work. Awful glad I met you. Good by!" |
