Description |
Pair of women's boots with a combination of black leather and black cloth. Pointed toe. Leather toe, sides, and border containing holes for laces. Higher part of the outer part of the shoe is black cloth. All pieces of black cloth have light colored cloth on the inside. Both shoes have "150 11379" printed on the cloth inside. Both have 17 holes for the laces. The tops have an unusual shape, trimmed in a strip of leather, so that the backs are about 3/4" higher than the fronts. |
Provenance |
Display card that was with these boots reads: "SHOES Belonged to Caroline C. Pelham. Original cost $3.50. Age 1867-1931." |
Notes |
An ad from 15 Feb 1912 in The Youth's Companion depicts a pair of buttoned Balmoral boots almost identical to our 0000.368.001 as retailing for $3.50. 1867-1931 is Caroline Creese Pelham's lifetime (16 Oct 1867 - 20 Feb 1931), so they hadn't narrowed the age any more than that. These are late Victorian, early Edwardian period. |
